42 arrested in LL sweeping exercise

Lilongwe, Police in Lilongwe on Wednesday arrested42 people in a sweeping exercise they conducted in the city’s Old Town and surrounding areas.

Lilongwe police public relations officer, Kingsley Dandaula told the Malawi News Agency (MANA) in an interview that 22 of the suspects were arrested for idle and disorderly, eleven for illegal vending and nine for touting.

He said this is a routine exercise which the Police conduct in the city and surrounding areas to ensure that the citizenry live in a peaceful and safe environment.

We always do this to bring sanity in the city, said Dandaula.

The suspects will appear in court soon.
