Vice President for the Association of People with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) Alick Machila has asked Government to dwell much on identifying market masters of killers of people with albinism.
Speaking in an interview with Malawi News Agency after a National Review Conference on campaign against the killings of people with albinism in Mangochi on Wednesday, Machila said the problem of albino killing would be dealt with if much focus is on finding market masters perpetrating the crime.
“As APAM we would love that the first thing should not be to look at the market but instead we should consider finding out the market masters because if people with albinism are being killed it means there is a ready market,” Machila said.
“We have trust in the country’s security agencies that they will find the market masters, however, if they do not APAM will not let the situation to get out of hand and will find out people of good will to assist in finding out the market masters,” he added.
Machila said APAM will not relent in its effort of protecting people with albinism from ruthless murderers who are killing their colleagues like goats and chickens, saying the association would try all its best that the masters of the act should be found and exposed.
The APAM vice president, therefore, asked government to consider people with albinism by giving them high appointments in government or politics, noting such opportunities would give people confidence that people with albinism were equally capable.
Speaking in a separate interview, Vice Chairperson of Citizen Alliance, Thoko Nkawa said as Citizen Alliance they would like to achieve justice so that people should feel safe in Malawi hence engaged in the campaign against the killings of people with albinism.
