Lilongwe: African Boxing Union (ABU) champion Anisha Basher will on June 15th, 2018, take on Samantha Smith in a Commonwealth Female Lightweight title fight which will take place in the United Kingdom at York Hall in London.
Basher the massacre, born on September 1st, 1997 and who made her debut in 2015, has fought 12 bouts in which she made seven wins and lost five. Five of these bouts were international.
Her opponent, Samantha, who is aged 38, has fought nine bouts making a record of eight wins and a single defeat. She also made her debut in 2015.
Speaking in an interview with Malawi News Agency on Wednesday, Basher’s trainer, Clyde Musonda said the girl was doing her best to grab the Commonwealth title belt come June 15th.
Preparations are going on very well; we are in camp training at College of Medicine gym where there are better boxing facilities. Cool Running’s restaurant is taking care of the boxer’s diet to the point that she is doing well.
Now she is 90 per cent fit, before we leave on the 10th (June), she will be on 100 per cent. She is too hungry for the title as it will automatically take her to any world titles if she wins this one, said Musonda.
On her record of winning seven knout-outs, Musonda said that was how she was taught.
As you know Anisha from her last seven fights, she won all of them with technical knockouts, so, we just want to maintain that especially when fighting away from home to avoid losing on home decision. We expect another technical knockout.
I should urge all Malawians to support the girl as she has carried the flag of Malawi, of course, we do respect her opponent (Samantha)’s record as she is also training hard to win the belt. She got a good record but Anisha got many technical knockouts, added Musonda.
