BCC optimistic of keep Blantyre clean continuity

Blantyre, . Blantyre City Council ( BCC) has said it is optimistic that the keep the City clean and green initiative will continue after the May 21 polls.

In an interview Malawi News Agency on Monday in Blantyre, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for BCC, Anthony Kasunda said the continuity of the programme that has changed the face of Blantyre into a clean and green city, would depend on the next Mayor’s decision.

While saying the purpose of initiative have been fulfilled, he said that, The aim of the Mayor’s initiative was to promote citizens and companies to make their surrounding clean and green by planting trees, flours and collecting garbage’s.

See Blantyre now is one of the beautiful cities in the country and Africa. Malawi is best to judge on the impact of programme. Kasunda said.

He said the Council organized the competition to help the citizens take an active role in making the city clean, adding that the Police took a big role in the initiative by arresting those who liter anywhere.

Keep Blantyre clean and green is an initiative that was introduced by Mayor for Blantyre City with an aim of changing people’s mindset by putting the responsibility of caring for the city into their own hands.
