Blantyre, The much awaited national registration exercise started on Friday in Blantyre with more people flocking to registration centers.

According to Blantyre District Commissioner, Benett Nkasala about 59 centers are ready to carry out the exercise and that many more are expected to start registering by the end of the day.

So far so good, almost all centers in Blantyre North and Blantyre North East constituencies have been covered. As of today, registration teams have been deployed to 59 centers. This means we have 120 centers which are yet to start. However, we should have registration teams in all centers by close of business today (Friday), Nkasala said.

Blantyre in total has 179 registration centers where more than 720,000 people are expected to register within a period of three weeks.

Earlier this week, the DC assured Malawians that Blantyre will achieve a 100 percent registration rate.

Blantyre is always on top and we want to be the best in as far as the exercise is concerned, he emphasized.

Meanwhile, the District Information Office in collaboration with other stakeholders is conducting awareness campaigns with the aim of enticing more people to come out and register.
