Bunda CSO to organize cultural night fundraising event

Lilongwe: Bunda Catholic Student Organization (CSO) has organized a cultural night fundraising event on July 14, 2018 at Bunda College Hall in Lilongwe to find money to be used in helping underprivileged students around Bunda area.

Speaking in an interview with the Malawi News Agency (Mana), Chairperson for Bunda CSO, Tony Chibambo said they have organized the event as one way of generating money so that they increase the number of beneficiaries in their quest to reach out to more needy students around Bunda community.

There are a lot of underprivileged students around Bunda which is why we decided to hold this fundraising event so that by increasing the number of beneficiaries, we will help reduce the challenge of school dropout of needy students.

The organization helps underprivileged students from Mitundu Secondary School (MTSS) and others from the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), Chibambo said.

Currently two MTSS students are being paid for their school fees and five from LUANAR are being helped with their upkeep, while two others are being helped with rental fee. However, we want to increase the number of beneficiaries by helping two other students with school fees from LUANAR, eight with rental fees and 10 with upkeep while at MTSS we want to add five on school fees and 10 with upkeep, he added.

The Bunda CSO managed to raise MK1.3 Million in their previous event last year while this year they are targeting to raise MK 10 Million.

Chairperson of Chinkhoswe organizing committee, Philias Gondwe said the fundraising event will start with a mock engagement ceremony from 4 to 5 pm where the organization will fundraise by walking door-to-door with the mock engagement couple as one way of raising money. This will be followed by a cultural night which will start from 7pm.

Gospel Kazako, Zodiak Broadcasting Station Managing Director has been invited to be the Guest of Honour at the event and Soldier Lucius Banda and his Zembani Band will be performing to spice up the event while Bunda CSO will have a fashion show and different cultural dances like Henga, Masewe, Matcholera, Mbwiza, Ingoma, Beni, Tchopa and Gule Wamkulu.

Lucius Banda confirmed to Mana on his coming to perform during the event.

I can confirm that I will be available at Bunda to perform during the cultural night event, people should expect to be entertained to the fullest, Banda said
