Chilowamatambe ADC pledges to fight against corruption in KU

Kasungu: Area Development Committee (ADC) in Traditional Authority Chilowamatambe in Kasungu has pledged to fight against corruption in the local structures in their areas.

Speaking at an event organized by Good Health Youth Organization (GHYO) on Wednesday the chairperson for the Committee, Yamikani Tembo said corruption remains the root cause for under development in the district and needs to be curbed starting from the local structures.

It is very disappointing that the authorities in our local structures are at the forefront of fueling corruption that is undermining development in our areas, we have many abandoned and incomplete projects as a result of this behavior for example the construction of Nthupo bridge that stalled sometime back, said Tembo.

Tembo said the ADC is willing to fight against the malpractice in different areas across the district adding that there is need to work hand in hand with different organizations and the government to fulfill the dream of ending corruption in the district.

Commenting on the issue, the Project Coordinator for GHYO, Paul Shawa pledged support in the fight against corruption from the grassroots levels so that developmental funds should be accounted for to the benefit of the communities.

Our greatest vision is to see an end to corruption in Kasungu and Malawi as whole; as such we have a local governance accountability project. In this project we are making sure that there is accountability in different sectors of governance and development, said Shawa.

He believes that if transparency and accountability is enhanced, the areas and the country as whole will develop and corruption will be history.

The project is supported by Local Government Accountability and Performance Project (LGAP) with funding from USAID.
