In an interview with the Malawi News Agency (MANA) on Tuesday Head of Southern Region Community Policing Committee, Alex Simenti said it is the duty of every citizen to ensure that their surroundings are safeguarded all the time dismissing assertions that it is solely the duty of police officers to safeguard people and property.
Simenti said crime prevention in whatever form, can be best tackled if there is mutual and good relationships amongst; individuals, community members, community policing committees and the police.
He said safeguarding one’s life and property starts right away from the household level adding that if all Malawians embrace this thinking then Malawi will become crime free.
“You pretty know who your neighbor is; what his/her occupation is; why then should you fail to track down all forms of criminal activities right from the household level?” questioned Simenti.
He commended the community policing forum around Chimwankhunda Dam saying it has been outstanding in its activities in maintaining peace and security in its area.
