Lilongwe, Coss Chiwalo, a well-known member of Alleluya Band launched his 15-track CD album on Sunday, November 25, at St Patrick’s Parish in Lilongwe which earned him K.5 million.
Chiwalo’s launch of the album comes after a break of 10 years which the musician attributed to financial difficulties.
Speaking in an interview with Malawi News Agency (MANA) after the launch, Chiwalo said he was happy to be back on stage after a long break. The launch was part of commemoration of Radio Maria 20th Anniversary.
It feels good to break the silence. My last album was called Heart of Hope in2008before I went to the break.
It was unbelievable to see my first CD album being sold at a half million (K500, 000) and a huge crowd graced my show of which I never expected to see such amazing grace, I say thanks to all my fans, said Chiwalo.
He further applauded the director of Andiamo Trust, Patrick Bwanali, who he said had given him full support for the album to come out.
The silence came in because of financial hiccups that we have. Releasing an album is expensive these days. Alleluya Band goes to Italy every year and we spend much of our time to prepare for our trips, he said.
However, he assured the fans he had now come to stay in the industry and that they should expect more to come from the band.
My message to our fans is that they should expect more from Alleluya Band. They have requested that we should be conducting our shows in places where people can come with their families, he said, pledging to respect the request.
The launch of the album was spiced up by music from Luscious Banda, Billy Kaunda, Sir Paul Banda, Isaac Liotcha, Charles Sineta, Augustine Kaliwo and Francis Damaseka. Others were Chanco Alumni Choir and St Patrick’s Choir among others.
