DoDMA winds up relief maize distribution Wednesday

Blantyre: Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) will on Wednesday next week finalize distribution of relief maize to 432,729 food insecure households in the country.

DoDMA Public Relations Officer, Chipiliro Khamula, told Malawi News Agency on Friday that so far, the department has completed the distribution exercise in 22 of the 26 districts.

We have distributed 413, 357 bags to the same number of households, meaning that we are remaining with 19,472 bags.

All things being equal, we envisage to wind up the distribution exercise in the next six days, he said.

Khamula also dismissed claims alleging that some beneficiaries are sharing a bag of relief maize saying: the exercise targets 432,729 acute food insecure households and that every beneficiary stands to get a 50 kilogram bag of maize not otherwise.

The publicist also disclosed that soon after the distribution of relief maize, DoDMA will start responding to a report on food insecurity by Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee.

The Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee response will extend up to March next year, he said.

DoDMA started the distribution exercise on September 20, 20l8.
