EGENCO-Tedzani four project on the right track

Blantyre: Electricity Generating Company of Malawi (EGENCO) has said Tedzani four project is progressing smoothly and according to plan.

In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Monday in Blantyre, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for EGENCO, Moses Gwaza said there is tremendous progress in the rehabilitation project since the works started July this year.

I can boldly say that the progress of the project is ahead of schedule, as EGENCO we have already completed constructing a tunnel and a head tank, he said.

Gwaza added that currently EGENCO has started clearing and excavation works on the site marked for the Tedzani Four powerhouse.

Currently EGENCO is conducting excavation works for a four story powerhouse, this is the last and longest phase of the whole project but we are optimistic that it will be constructed within the recommended time frame, the PRO said.

When asked whether the project has faced challenges since its onset, Gwaza narrated that currently they are facing no challenges.

He said that, so far there are no challenges but sometime back we experienced minimal challenges with cement suppliers who couldn’t supply on time but that was rectified.

Gwaza highlighted that when the project is completed it would greatly contribute to the country’s electricity output capacity.

When the project is completed, it will add 19.5 megawatts to the current capacity of 403.6 megawatts that EGENCO is generating as of today, he said.

Tedzani four project is expected to be completed in December 2021.
