Government has assured Malawians that coupons for central and northern regions will be available by Friday.
Speaking in parliament, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Dr George Chaponda said there were delays on printing the coupons.
“We have delayed in the distribution of coupons than we promised because they were not available as expect to be in our hands in the right time.
“There is nothing to worry about and come Friday, Malawians will have their coupons,” said Chaponda adding that, “you may wish to know that we have delayed the exercise because the coupons were being printed in United Kingdom.”
He said the coupons which the Ministry had in time were only for Chitipa, Mchinji and the southern region because this is where the rains start earlier.
According to Chaponda government is doing everything possible to make sure that people have the coupons in time.
“We want people to have the coupons in time so that they can access the maize seeds and plant in good time,” he said.
This year apart from ADMARC and Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund of Malawi, the private traders will be retailing fertilizer directly to the smallholder farmers and each District will have not less than four retailers.
