Four arrested during sweeping exercise in Lilongwe

Lilongwe: Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody four people following a Criminal Investigations Department (CID) sweeping exercise on the night of 12 and 13 September, 2018.

Speaking in an interview with the Malawi News Agency (Mana), Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kingsly Dandaula, said the sweeping exercise was organized after they received tips on illegal business operations.

We received tips from well-wishers that there were some illegal businesses taking place around the city and this prompted us to conduct the sweeping exercise which went on successfully, said Dandaula.

He said amongst the suspects, Owen Kalumba 29 and Sativa Tenazio were found selling Marijuana in small plastics while the other two were selling liquor without any license.

He has however, advised all illegal business operators to refrain from the act and warned that whoever is found doing so will be arrested and charged.

Dandaula said the four arrested will all appear before court soon.
