Hi-tech MEC voters’ registration excites LL prospective voters

Lilongwe: The new voter registration procedure has been praised by some prospective voters in Lilongwe who have described it as excellent in that it takes less of their time.

One prospective voter, Andrew Phiri, 22, who registered at Lilongwe District Commissioner’s Centre, told Malawi News Agency (Mana) after registering that the process was smooth as it took him just under one minute to complete the process.

I have been here for less than five minutes and have already been assisted. This is my voter registration certificate. This is indeed great as I can quickly return to my work now, said Phiri.

Another potential voter, Henry Chadzala of Area 24 in Lilongwe also praised the process as a great advancement in comparison to the previous exercises and urged fellow prospective voters to register.

Voter registration officer at the centre, Joyce Makwasa, said the new voter registration was easy to work with and very convenient for their clients.

As of Monday morning, August 6, 2018, at least 2, 324 people had registered at the centre.

Malawi will hold tripartite elections in 2019 and the voter registration process is currently in the third phase covering Lilongwe city and rural.
