Dedza: The department of Immigration women social welfare group has donated items worthy K2.5 million to help the Gospel Ambassador of Christ Orphanage (GACO) in Dedza.
Wife to the Senior Deputy Director General from Immigration, Cecilia Nyirenda said every year people from the department contribute money meant to be used for charity work just as the orphanage donation gesture.
Nyirenda said the department bought assorted items to give the children as gifts to cheer up the children at the orphanage.
“Among some of the items we have brought with us today are shoes, sugar , blankets, soap, pens and exercise books to help the children from this orphanage in their daily living, explained Nyirenda.
She added that the department will still continue to support needy Malawians in various aspects of life where need be.
The Director for GACO, Mike Kafunya told Malawi News Agency (MANA) that they approached the department of Immigration for assistance after they saw the department giving out various items to the sick at Zomba mental hospital in 2017.
“I am very grateful today because after our request Immigration department pledged to support us in which today they have fulfilled the promise with these gifts for the children, said Kafunya.
He further called upon other government departments to emulate the good example the department has shown in helping the needy children in the country.
GACO was opened in 2014 and is taking care of 49 children from Chumachitsara Village Traditional Authority (T/A) Kachere in the district.
Elube Dickson a girl from GACO was very thankful to the women from Immigration, saying the assistance had come at the right time because she had no blanket to cover herself with during this winter seasons.
