Kamuzu and Civo Stadiums to host Carlsberg Cup semis

Blantyre: Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that Kamuzu Stadium and Civo Stadium will host the Carlsberg Cup semi finals matches slated for October 6 and 7.

In a letter from FAM, signed by the General Secretary, Alfred Gift Gunda, Nyasa Bullets will be at home against Masters Security on Saturday, October 6 while on Sunday, Hangover United will be at home against Mighty Be Forward Wanderers.

In the 2018 Carlsberg Cup round of 16, Changalume Barracks and Red Lions who were at home with Bullets, used Kamuzu Stadium as their home ground and Tigers FC who welcomed Wanderers used the same venue as the home ground.

FAM Competitions Manager, Gomezgani Zakazaka, said the teams have not yet reacted to the decision since everything has been done according to the rules and regulations.

Rule 8.1 in the cup competition states that when a team is seeded at home with another team, it does not mean that the team will use the ground which they use as a home ground but it only shows that the team was the first to be seeded.

It has been a value for the organizing committee of FAM and the sponsors themselves, Castel Malawi to ensure that the matches have been spread across the country. In 2013, we had a semi final in Mzuzu and one in Blantyre.

In 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017, we had one semi final in Lilongwe and the other one in Blantyre. So it is about sharing the fun in the football matches. We are now geared for the preparations of the 2018 Carlsberg Cup following the announcement of the official two fixtures, Zakazaka said.

Masters Security Head Coach Abbass Makawa said the team is geared up to meet Bullets in the Carlsberg Cup.

He said: We are ready for the game against Bullets. Everything is in place and all the preparations are going on just fine.

The only setback is that we will not have our Defender Maneno Nyoni and Midfielder Tilekeleni Anzeru Joseph who are on loan to Bullets. The contract we have with Bullets concerning the players is that the players will not be featured in any game involving us and Bullets.

Bullets progressed into the semi finals after seeing off Red Lions 5-4 on post match penalties after regulation time ended in one all while Masters were 4-3 victors over Mafco FC on penalties after normal time ended in a two all draw.

Bullets rivals, Wanderers emerged winners over Tigers FC with a 4-3 win on penalties after 90 minutes failed to produce a winner. Chitetezo Mbaula Southern Region Premier Division League tier Hangover United thrashed Super League giants Blue Eagles 1-0.

Currently, 28 games have been played in the Carlsberg Cup: 16 games in the round of 32, eight games in the round of 16 and four games have been played in the quarter finals.
