Mzuzu: Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) chairperson, Lameck Khonje, in his personal capacity Wednesday donated eight football nets to northern region district football associations.
Speaking after presenting the donation which he sourced from South Africa, Khonje said he made the donation to district football associations as an intervention to some of the challenges the institutions face in the process of developing football.
I thought it wise to help the district football associations after realizing that these football governing structures lack a number of sporting materials, a challenge which can impact negatively on the development of football in the region, said Khonje.
Khonje also pledged to provide the football associations with more football equipment such as cones, training bibs and balls. In addition to the football nets, he also handed over a trophy to the NRFA for it to continue running the Simama and Sons Premier league competently.
I am saying that you are running the league competently because we are not witnessing major complaints from the participating teams unlike in the past, he said.
Commenting on the development, second vice president of National Football Association of Malawi (FAM), Othaniel Hara commended Khonje for the donation and appealed to people in leadership positions in different football governing structures to emulate the gesture.
This is a welcome development in the development of football in the country, as FAM we depend on stakeholders in assisting the associations. Hara pledged that FAM will provide footballs to all the districts in the region as per request from NRFA.
