Courtesy of Blackmore and Women of Distinction Awards (WODA), on Saturday Lilongwe Wildlife Centre hosted a special mother-daughter brunch to celebrate Mother’s Day.
The aim of the event was to fundraise for sanitary kits to help school girls stay in school.
“The event was meant to celebrate all our fantastic mothers and the special bond between mothers and daughters. The mother who shares her life’s journey, the challenges and successes, sets a blueprint about how to be a strong as well as nurturing woman. She raises a daughter who will follow in the same footsteps because children follow our examples, not our advice,” explained WODA Chairperson, Zilanie Gondwe.
She added: “The culture of motherhood in Malawi emphasizes the important role of mothers. We cherish them, we are them, our daughters become us and therefore we revel in this special aspect of humanity.”
Activities included performance from the country’s music treasure Rudo Chakwera, poetry from Temwa Bijou, an auction, raffles, cake sales and a fashion show by Nells Secret Possessions.
Games included a chance for a mother-daughter duo who won prizes for best dressed mother-daughter and best dancing mother-daughter.
The event was also aimed at raising money for breast cancer awareness for Think Pink Malawi.
