Lingadzi Police recover items stolen from SDA congregation

Blantyre, Police in Lingadzi have recovered various items suspected to have been stolen from Mtandile Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church members on Sunday.

The items which include; two laptops, a computer projector, an HD camera and two tablet phones among other items were recovered on Tuesday from the suspect’s house.

Confirming the development in an interview with the Malawi News Agency (MANA) on Thursday, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Lingadzi Police, Constable Foster Benjamin said the suspect; Mike Justine has since been arrested.

“It is alleged that on Sunday night at around 9 o’clock in the evening, Kaputuka Mlenga, a Zambian Pastor came to the church in the company of other faithfuls in readiness for Easter prayers when the incident happened,” said the PRO.

According to Benjamin, the worshipers reported the issue to Lingadzi Police Sub-Station, prompting the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team to institute investigations which saw police raiding the suspect’s house and recovering the items.

“Justine has since been charged with breaking into a building and committing a felony which contravenes section 311 of the penal code” said Banjamin.

According to the PRO, Justine is expected to appear before the court of law soon.

Justine hails from Traditional Authority (T/A) Chimutu in Lilongwe District.
