The Malawian government has refuted claims by Zambia’s United Progressive Party (UPP) leader Saviour Chishimba that some government officials were involved in a maize scam with that country.
Malawian President Peter Mutharika has told Zambian President Edgar Lungu that the reports are unfounded.
The Malawian leader briefed President Lungu on the matter when the two leaders met in Addis Ababa Ethiopia for bilateral talks while attending the African Union summit there earlier this week.
The Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda, told the media Wednesday that the Malawian government would invite the Zambian opposition party leader to a commission of inquiry following his allegations.
Chanda also disclosed that Zambia and Egypt had held talks to discuss the possibility of a partnership in agriculture.
President Lungu has described the just ended 28th ordinary session of the African Union heads of state and government as a success.
