Man arrested over theft, unlawful wounding

Chiradzulu: Chiradzulu Police has arrested a 45 year old Dickson Tchare for allegedly stealing trees and unlawfully wounding a guard at Njuli.

Chiradzulu Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Yohane Tasowana, told Malawi News Agency Friday that on the night of September 20, Tchare went to Universal Company Forest Reserve to steal bluegum trees.

He said at around midnight as the guards were patrolling the area, one of them Patrick Wyson, heard a sound of tree cutting and alerted fellow guards who followed the sound and chased the suspect.

Tasowana further said one of the guards William Kuyadziwa managed to apprehend the suspect who overpowered him before his fellow guards came to his rescue.

Meanwhile, Kuyadziwa has been treated as an out-patient at Chiradzulu District Hospital from the minor cuts he sustained on his right hand.

Police are still investigating on the matter and the suspect will appear before the court soon to answer charges of stealing and causing unlawful wounding.
