Man in custody for defiling 3 year old girl

Chikwawa, Police in Chikwawa are keeping in custody a 22-year-old man on allegations that he defiled a three-year-old girl in Chikwawa, Malawi News Agency (Mana) has learnt.

Chikwawa Police Station Spokesperson Constable Foster Benjamin said on Friday that the suspect, Mingalasi Katandika, is alleged to have defiled the girl on December 7, 2017 at Timbenawo Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Chapananga in the district.

Benjamin said the victim went out to play with her friends nearby where she met her fate. Whilst playing, the suspect grabbed and dragged her into his house where he defiled her.

After the heinous act, Katandika is said to have given the girl K20 note to say nothing, said the publicist adding that her mother discovered found out after observing that girl had difficulties in walking.

The victim’s mother then reported the matter to Chikwawa police before the girl was taken to Chikwawa District Hospital where postmortem revealed that she was indeed defiled.

Police arrested the suspect the following day and was taken to court same day where he pleaded not guilty to the charge. The court was adjourned to give the police time to parade witnesses.

Katandika comes from Timbenawo Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chapananga in Chikwawa.
