Man nabbed for murder

Lilongwe, Police in Machinga are keeping in custody a man for allegedly murdering Mike Mtukanika in Machinga.

Confirming the incident with the Malawi News Agency (Mana) Wednesday, Machinga Police Public Relations Officer Constable Davie Sulumba identified the suspect as Elias Jalasi 21, from Nkhuna village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Liwonde, Machinga.

He said the deceased person was in a love relationship with a 16 year old standard 7 learner who is a younger sister to the suspects’ wife.

It is alleged that the deceased used to visit her frequently, even during odd hours and on that fateful night of 23rd April 2017, the deceased went to his girlfriend’s house (the suspects wife’s house) not knowing that Jalasi had arrived from Blantyre where he works as a Garden Boy.

He knocked on the door and in no time the suspect came out and chased him but managed to apprehend him, then the suspect brutally assaulted Mtukanika using some kind of a stick, Sulumba said.

The matter was reported to Ntaja Police Post who took the deceased to Ntaja Health Centre and postmortem conducted revealed that death was due to severe loss of blood.

Jalasi who hails from Mpirangwe village, TA Kadewere in Chiradzulu district will appear in court soon to answer charges of murder contrary to section 209 of the penal code.
