Mangochi police hunting for armed robbery suspects

The Mangochi Police Station is hunting for five unidentified criminals suspected to have committed a crime of robbery with violence, contrary to section 301 of the penal code, Malawi News Agency has learnt.

Assistant Public Relations Officer for Mangochi Police, Amina Tepani Daudi said the incident happened on Friday around 7:30pm when the criminals went away with K2.5 million cash, an HP laptop and Samsung mobile phone belonging to an Indian national.

She identified the victim of the armed robbery as Imran Yusuf currently staying at Kalonga location within Mangochi Boma.

Daudi said the robbers stormed the house of the unsuspecting Yusuf while chatting away with his family at the veranda after knocking off from his shop business.

“Mr. Yusuf saw five unknown men armed with panga knives and axes who ordered the rest of the family members to enter into the house and demanded money from him,” she said.

“After being informed we visited the scene of the crime and investigations are underway to arrest the culprits,” PRO said.

To this effect, Daudi said the police in Mangochi is appealing to the general public to keep their money in safe places like commercial banks to avoid incidents of theft.
