Football Journalists Association (FJA) has announced the launch of the Association which is aimed at promoting and maintaining a high professional standard among journalists who specialize in football reporting and serve their interest.
According to the FJA Press Statement signed by its General Secretary, Mabvuto Kambuwe, the country has close to 200 sports journalists with almost all of them at one point having reported on football.
He said it is against this background that the idea of forming was hatched with the aim of promoting and maintaining a high professional standard among journalists who specialize in football reporting.
FJA Vice President, Deitrich Frederich told Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Saturday in Blantyre that this is a new group of football journalists in the country saying it is made up of reporters who basically report on football on a daily basis.
This is a new group. Basically, in the 21st century, we have been encouraged to specialize in football journalism. This is why we have chosen this out of all sports disciplines. Since the Association has just been formed, membership registration is now open for everybody. The registration fee is K10, 000 for everyone who wants to join, he said.
Frederich said membership to the group would be open everybody from all the regions of the country.
He added that it is encouraging to see how journalists have embraced the initiative.
Frederich encouraged sports journalists to join the association.
In fact, this kind of grouping was supposed to be there way back, in line with what other countries do, he observed.
The Association will be launched on December 29,2018 in Mangochi where there would be a number of activities to spice up the event.
