Minister of Energy, Mining and Natural Resources, Bright Msaka, says Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (MAREP) 8 will benefit over 200 centres.
The minister disclosed this during an interview at Parliament building in Lilongwe.
He said the eighth phase will primarily benefit at least three centres per district across the country.
“Then there are centres that are beneficiary centres which because of their proximity to current lines might benefit from the expansion. We also have drop down centres. These are lines that have over the years been bypassed by the distribution lines.
“They have grown as trading centres probably then they didn’t deserve to be electrified, but over the years they have grown and deserve to have electricity,” explained Msaka.
MAREP is an initiative that aims at electrifying rural areas.
