Market shelters crucial for economic development

Mzuzu: Catholic Development Commission of Malawi (Cadecom) says availability of modern market shelters in busy trading areas is crucial in fostering economic activities in the country.

The Commission says the country has many areas especially in rural communities which attract many business activities but lack structures for them to unleash their full potential.

Cadecom Director of Social Services for Mzuzu Diocese, Isaac Ziba said this Sunday when the organisation commissioned Kadikeshi Market shelter in Mzimba.

Giving local business people such a place for them to be doing their trade will highly motivate them as now they will be encouraged to even produce more since they know they have a better and comfortable place to transact their business.

In the long run, we believe that a lot more people will venture into business courtesy of such a modern market shelter, he stated.

Ziba pointed out that people from across the country would have opportunity to travel to the market to buy goods as they would be sure of accessing them because of the permanent market structure.

Furthermore, we hope that many people who are in transit or come here will be assured of finding a variety of goods at the market since it will now be operating permanently, he added.

The Director challenged traders in the area to use the market fully by bringing a variety of goods in order for them to benefit as well as satisfy buyers’ needs.

Parliamentarian for Mzimba East, Olipa Muyaba thanked Cadecom for the initiative and encouraged other organisations to emulate such gestures.
