Blantyre, A group of the Malawi National Football Team supporters under the MBC Stands Supporters Initiative, Wednesday led the way in supporting the Flames ahead of Saturday’s CHAN qualifier against Eswatini by visiting the team’s training ground.
The supporters brought various assorted items including fruits and refreshments worth K240, 000 as a way of showing their love for the team which will be playing the second leg of the CHAN games at the Kamuzu Stadium.
Speaking after donating the items and cheering the team at the Kamuzu Stadium, the Group’s Chairperson, Wilson Sudi said the visit was aimed at boosting the team’s morale for the Saturday’s must win match.
He said: we requested FAM to allow us interact with the team as we believe that there is a great relationship the two groups, players and supporters, and also supporting the team does not only mean going to the stadium only.
Sudi pointed out that, On Saturday we must win for us to proceed to the next round but again, we have not won a game for so long, so the boys need all the support to do well. We wanted to show a different kind of support to our team by meeting them face to face and offer them encouragement.
Flames Captain John Lanjesi hailed the grouping initiative for the gesture and assured them and all Malawians that the team would do the best to win on Saturday.
We are very grateful to the MBC Supporters Initiative for their support. As a team, we will do our best to make our supporters happy this coming Saturday because we are at home. All we can ask for is much patronage and support for us, he explained.
Flames were held to a goalless draw away to Eswatini in the first round first leg of the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers on April 20,2019 at Mavuso Sports Centre in Manzini, Mbabane.
