Nkhata Bay, Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Sunday civic educated residents of Nkhata Bay on how to vote in the forthcoming tripartite elections.
The activity was held at Kalambwe Primary School in the area of Senior Chief Mkumbira in Nkhata Bay district.
MEC’s Northern Region, Civic and Voter Education Officer, Stella Mwachande, said they conducted the activity in order to teach people the proper way of voting so as to reduce null and void ballot papers during the voting process.
“We want to educate people on the proper way of voting so that we reduce the occurrences of null and void ballot papers,” she said.
Mwachande said she was impressed with the turn out which included chiefs.
“The turnout was good. The other good thing is that traditional leaders came and this will help carrying the message to their people,” the officer added.
One of the people who participated in the exercise, Martin Longwe said the training has been done at the right moment and he will use the knowledge gained on the Election Day.
“I am happy to have learnt this and I will apply the knowledge during voting,” she said.
Apart from MEC, the National Initiative on Civic Education (NICE) is one of the stakeholders in civic educating people on voting and making them ready for the 21st May 21, 2019 Tripartite Elections.
