Blantyre, Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) will conduct a ballot paper template vetting exercise for all candidates for the May 21 Tripartite Elections from March 5 to 14, 2019.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, MEC indicated that all candidates or their representatives were asked to go to their respective district, city or municipal council offices to inspect details of the ballot paper and sign for the same during the stated period.
The exercise will be running strictly from 9:00 in the morning to 12:00 noon starting with Chitipa, Lilongwe District, Chiradzulu, Blantyre City on March 5; Karonga, Lilongwe City, Zomba District and City, Blantyre District on March 6 and Rumphi, Mchinji, Machinga and Nsanje on March 7.
Vetting for Mzuzu, Mzimba North, Dowa, Mangochi district and town, Chikwawa and Neno will be done on March 8 while Nkhata Bay, Likoma, Ntchisi, Balaka and Mwanza vetting will be done on March 11.
In Mzimba, Kasungu district and town, Ntcheu, Phalombe the exercise will be on March 12 with Nkhotakota, Dedza and Mulanje on March 13. The exercise will finish with Salima, Thyolo and Luchenza on March 14, the statement further reads.
MEC said all candidates who wish to amend particulars on the ballot paper are advised to bring supporting documentation like the national ID, passport and marriage certificate in case of names.
For those that claim that their names on their national ID are incorrect, they must bring proof of their application for change of name with National Registration Bureau (NRB) and a letter from NRB supporting their application.
Candidates are advised that this is an administrative activity and therefore, there will be no need to bring supporters. Candidates who are engaged on the day of the exercise may send any of their representatives, the statement adds.
