Modern market construction continues in Mulanje

Mulanje,: Government has commenced construction of new Msika wa Njala Market in Mulanje in a bid to ensure that people have modern facilities, including markets.

Member of Parliament for Mulanje Bale where the market is being constructed, Victor Musowa, during the launch of construction works of the market said the facility will, among other things, boost social economic activities in the area.

He said for a long-time, people in the area have been plying their trade in an open space which was affecting their business. The market is expected to help the business community to maximize business potentials.

“Having a modern market will be a dream-come-true for us as for a long time, we have been having problems in terms of doing business as we did not have a conducive place for business, Musowa said.

Mulanje Council Chairperson, Councillor Charles Kapata asked Fidelis Building contractors who have been assigned to construct the market, to utilize locally available resources by among other things, providing job opportunities to people in the area.

He also asked the contractor to complete the job within the agreed time period of 12 months to ensure that vendors who have temporarily been moved out of their premises are back in their business stations to continue improving their livelihoods.

The market construction has being funded to the tune of K423 million by the Malawi Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

Msika wa Njala is popularly known to be the centre where farmers come and sell their farm produces in Mulanje.
