In his remarks on Tuesday, First Capital Bank Branch Manager Brian Mungomo Junior assured management of Mpingwe Sports Club that they will be back next year in a bigger and better way.
“We associate with cricket and as you are aware, we do sponsor a lot of minority sports like hockey, cricket and the under 20. Our aim is to sponsor a sport that has bright future in Malawi and we would like to assure the nation that we will continue to sponsor such initiatives.
“It’s been five years of sponsorship for cricket for First Capital Bank. This year we came back with the sponsorship to the tune of K3.5 million. We will continue sponsoring the game because they are well organized, said Mungomo.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee for Mpingwe Sports Club, Shiraz Zaveri commended First Capital Bank for the continued support rendered to them, saying this year’s competition was tight.
“We would like to commend First Capital Bank for its effort in uplifting the game in the country.
“It’s been a great tournament. We had 16 teams participating and each team registered 20 players.
“Last year’s winners and runners up didn’t make it to the finals. This is the most prestigious tournament in the cricket calendar and every team wants to win,” said Zaveri.
Mubashir Amiji was the player of the tournament, Asim Rashid was best batsman and Imran Khan was the best Bowler and Munaf Hola was the Man of the Match.
First Capital Bank started sponsoring cricket in 2004.
