Thyolo: Luchenza Municipal Council has renovated Luchenza Police Sub-Station as one way of promoting the fight against crime in the municipality.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Monday, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Luchenza Municipality, Sellina Chimphamba said the Council decided to come in and help the sub-station after looking at the state it was in.
“The roof and the ceiling were in very bad state. We thought we can do something about it, the CEO explained.
Chimphamba said considering the job that the Police do in the municipality, they deserved good infrastructure and decent rooms for offices.
She said as the municipality was under good security provided by police, it was important that stakeholders acknowledge it by assisting the institution.
“This is one way of acknowledging and appreciating the good job that they’re doing of securing properties and lives in Luchenza,” Chimphamba added.
Station Officer for Luchenza, Superintendent Christopher Taibu said the renovation of ceilings and roofs had come at the right time when the station had space problems.
He said most rooms at the station were unusable due to their poor roofing and dilapidated ceilings.
“We were congested in few rooms but almost every department now has its own office which is good. We are very grateful for the assistance,” Taibu pointed out.
The Station Officer said as the structures look beautiful, there was still an area of furniture which required well wishers to assist.
He said the station had very old furniture which does not suit the new structures.
“I will not allow you to take pictures but you can see the type of chairs and tables that we are using. We need well wishers to help us just like the municipal council has done,” the officer appealed.
Luchenza Municipal Council with funds from Infrastructure Development Fund has spent over K7 million on the roofing and ceiling project of the sub-station.
