The minister observed different development partners were making huge investments to the country’s socio-economic development which in turn was uplifting people’s living conditions, citing social services in the area of health, education and water as major beneficiary sectors.

He said the integrated rural development set out by government could not be realised by it alone, hence the need for other players to take part in the same.

“It needs someone to come and work together with government to complement government in her efforts and a good example of such a partner is ICEIDA whereby it is helping government in infrastructure development, social service delivery at grass root level in the areas of health, education, water and sanitation,” pointed out Nankhumwa.

Nankhumwa said government appreciates the gesture demonstrated by ICEIDA thereby calling on other partners to come and invest in Malawi especially in the area of social development.

Speaking in a separate interview, Augusta Gisladottir of ICEIDA said she was happy to witness the transformation taking place in Malawi from the resources of people of Iceland.

Gisladottir said her delegation was proud with the cooperation between Iceland and Mangochi in implementing the projects.

ICEIDA has constructed a maternity wing at Mangochi District Hospital, a maternity wing at Kukalanga Health Centre while in the education sector it has constructed school blocks in various primary schools apart from drilling several boreholes in Mangochi.

Meanwhile, ICEIDA has announced an additional support of K1 billion towards three sectors of water, education and health.
