Lilongwe, : Six new Ambassadors to Malawi on Thursday outlined their respective areas of interest as they are set begin work in the country after presenting their letters of credence to president Mutharika at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.
The Ambassadors are Hassam Shawky from Egypt, Michael Gerrard Burrell from New Zealand, Oumarou Maiga of Burkina Faso, Radek Rubes from Czech Republic, Niculin Jager of Switzerland and George Marcantonatos form Greece.
New Zealand Ambassador who said his country has already awarded 19 scholarships to Malawians revealed that his country would focus in the areas of renewable energy, climate change and public sector improvement.
These are we look forward to working together in these areas, he told journalists.
Ambassador for Burkina Faso said his country would centre on agriculture, tourism, culture and professional training for the youth while Czech Republic hopes to strengthen ties in business, education and project developments.
The Swiss government through its new Ambassador said it hopes to capitalize on the existing understanding between the two countries for further developments.
As you know, our two countries already have a Cooperation Strategy that runs up to 2022. In this regard, we will continue to focus on food, health, economic policy and on the political context, Marcantonatos explained.
