Nkhata Bay, Nkhata Bay District Institutional Integrity Committee (IIC) has urged various governmental institutions in the district to champion integrity when executing their duties to enhance service delivery.
The districts ICC member, Benford Mwakayuni expressed the sentiments Wednesday during a District Executive Committee (DEC) meeting held at the district’s council chamber.
He urged heads of various government institutions to ensure that integrity is at the core of their duties to ensure that transparency and accountability are prevalent.
“You have to be transparent and accountable to enhance service delivery,” urged Mwakayuni.
He further said Malawians have a role to play in the fight against corruption by ensuring that there is integrity, transparency and accountability among public officers for the smooth delivery of services.
“People in the communities should ensure that those heading public offices do their work in a clear and decent manner so that service delivery is improved as decentralisation policy indicates,” said Mwakayuni.
The IIC was formed through a strategy which arose from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) aiming at developing participation on integrity in the day-to-day operations of institutions at local level and has been in operation since 2009.
