The Mulanje Division of the Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) has this year realized an amount of K 652,700.00 through flag week contributions that are used by the organization to carry out its charity work for the needy.
Speaking at Mulanje Boma on Friday during the organizations flag week tin opening ceremony, MRCS Council Member, Noel Tcheula commended all sub divisions in the district for working tirelessly to realize all that money which would assist the organization to carry out its mandate of helping all those in need of support in the country.
“As an organization we have the mandate to support those who require assistance but without money we can’t reach out to assist our friends hence the importance of the flag week,” explained Tcheula.
He then on behalf of the organization thanked all the people who generously donated money during the flag week which commenced on 8th May this year saying though people in the district had had a bad harvest due to drought realizing such an amount was just so commendable.
In his remarks an Official from the District Commissioners office, Cox Mutharika commended Mulanje Division Red Cross leadership saying through unity they have managed to achieve a success.
Last year during a similar occasion, Mulanje Division sourced an amount of K 536,365.00.
The MRCS Flag week is an annual event through which the organization raises funds for its operations. The State President Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika is the Patron of the organization in the country.
The Red Cross Society was founded in 1918 by Henri Dunant after the end of the First World War.
