Paramount Ngolongoliwa installation set for May 28

Thyolo, Preparations for the installation of Paramount Chief Ngolongoliwa of Thyolo scheduled to take place on May 28 are at an advanced stage.

In an interview with the Malawi News Agency (MANA) on Tuesday, Chairperson for the organizing committee, Blessings Makwinja said preparations for the installation ceremony are underway in readiness for a big event at Mlakho wa Alhomwe Headquarters at Chonde in Mulanje District.

All the preparations are going on well and we are expecting at least all Lhomwes from all walks of life as well as other tribes to come. We are expecting not less than 25, 000 people to attend the installation of the Lhomwe Paramount Chief, he said.

Moreover, Makwinja said they have extended invitations to all traditional leaders in the country.

So far, the Lhomwe King Mutharika from Mozambique has confirmed his attendance. This means it will not be a mere event and we are expecting more traditional leaders from abroad to witness the installation. We encourage people to come regardless of them being Lhomwes, added Makwinja.

Moreover, Makwinja thanked all well wishers who have donated towards the event.

Let me thank the State President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the Vice President Saulosi Chilima for their timely support including the former head of state Dr Bakili Muluzi who has promised to assist us with transport, said Makwinja.

President Mutharika is expected to preside over the ceremony.

Paramount Chief Ngolongoliwa whose real name is Laelo Costa Juma was elevated to Sub T/A in 2010 before he ascended to T/A on 8 August 2014. On December 22, 2014, he was elevated to senior chief.
