Permanent Mission of the Republic of Malawi to the UN office established in Geneva

His Excellency Robert Dufter Salama on 11th April 2016 presented letters of credence to the Director of the United Nations (UN) Office in Geneva Micheal Moller as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Malawi to the United Nations Office at Geneva.

Speaking after presenting his credentials on Monday Ambassador Salama said the mission look forward to working closely with all the UN institutions in Geneva in promoting Malawi’s interests especially in such areas as trade, health, environment, labour particularly skills development.

In his remarks, Moller assured the Ambassador of the UN System support and specifically on implementation and review of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s)

According to a press statement made available to Malawi News Agency (MANA) Salama is the first resident Ambassador /Permanent Representative at the newly established permanent Mission of the Republic of Malawi to the UN office and to other International Organisations in Geneva.

“The mission was officially opened in September, 2015 and was being presented at the level of Charge’ d’Affaires, ad interim. In due course, the Ambassador will also be accredited to Switzerland, Greece, the Republic of Cyprus and the World Trade Organisation (WITO)”. Read part of the statement.

The establishment of the permanent Mission at Ambassador/Permanent representative level presents an opportunity for Malawi to promote her national interests in Geneva, which is renowned as the centre for multilateral diplomacy.
