Police impound a vehicle full of Indian hemp

Salima, Police in Salima have impounded a motor vehicle Toyota Voxy Registration number MHG 3561 and arrested the driver, Cassim Kalumba,28, for being found in possession of Indian hemp without license.

Confirming to Malawi News Agency (Mana) Wednesday, Salima police public relations officer, Sub-Inspector Gift Chitowe said that they were tipped by well-wishers that the vehicle was carrying illegal goods.

“On April 11, 2017 at about 4 pm, information was received that the said motor vehicle was coming from NKhotakota heading to Salima while in possession of 99 plastic bags containing loose Indian hemp. Police officers in all roadblocks were informed who later intercepted it at Kaphatenga Road Block,” he said.

Chitowe added the suspect will appear in court soon to answer charges of found in possession of Indian hemp without licence.

Kalumba hails from Maoni Village Tradition Authority (TA) Mponda in Mangochi district.
