Blantyre, The Malawi Police Service says it has tightened security ahead and during the Easter season in order to make sure that people’s lives and property are safe.
Easter period is one of the important events on the Christian Calendar that is marked by processions and church services in remembrance of the tribulations as well as resurrections of Jesus Christ.
This year, the festivities will start from April 14 to April 17.
Speaking in an interview with the Malawi News Agency (MANA) on Monday, National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera said experience has shown that during the celebrations such as Easter festivities, many robbers take advantage to steal people’s property in homes under different guises.
He said the police have engaged in an extra gear which among other things includes; conducting patrols in all suspected places as well as monitoring fitness of vehicles passing through the road in order to reduce accidents which commonly occur during the period.
“Currently, all uniform and civilian officers are set to engage in an extra gear which includes carrying out day and night patrols ahead and during the period to ensure that people’s lives and property are safe.
Moreover, he said the traffic department has also stepped up its work to reduce the number of accidents that might occur during the season because they have learnt that during this period, many people drink and drive recklessly.
“As such, our traffic police officers will make sure that such people are brought to book,” said Kadadzera.
