Lilongwe, The National Registration Bureau (NRB) under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security would like to inform the general public that registration of bona fide Malawians who are 16 years and above for issuance of National IDs is currently underway in a phased manner in the country.
In view of this, NRB would like to request all Malawians who acquired their citizenship by naturalization or registration to register for the National ID by presenting themselves with appropriate documentation that includes Certificate of Naturalization or Registration to a registration centre situated at or near the District Commissioner’s Office in the district of their residence.
Registration Officers in these designated centres in conjunction with NRB District Registration Officers and Immigration Officers have been trained on how to scrutinize documents as presented by Malawians by naturalization or registration and will be able to easily assist potential registrants.
In the process of scrutinizing the documentation, Registration Officers have been asked to accord the due dignity and courtesy to registrants in line with human rights principles.
NRB would like to assure the general public that it will, in accordance with the Citizenship Act, provide an opportunity to every eligible Malawian citizen to register for National ID, and that in accordance with the Malawi Constitution, nobody will be discriminated against on any grounds during the registration process. In line with this development, all Registration Officers have been briefed or communicated to.
