SOUTH AFRICA TO ENSURE SUCCESSFUL HOSTING OF 10TH BRICS SUMMIT IN JULY

PRETORIA — Communications Minister Nomvula Mokonyane says plans are in hand to ensure that South Africa hosts a successful 10th BRICS Summit of leaders of the group of five leading emerging nations made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS), which will get underway on July 25 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

She said in a statement here Thursday that South Africa had made headway on media co-ordination in preparations for the Summit and called on the media to apply to be accredited for the three-day summit which will be held under the theme: BRICS in Africa: Collaboration for Inclusive Growth and Shared Prosperity in the 4th Industrial Revolution.

South Africa holds the rotational chair of BRICS in 2018 and the Mokonyane said the 2018 Summit would be a seminal milestone for BRICS co-operation, as it represents a decade of BRICS co-operation at the highest diplomatic level.

In addition, the theme, she said, is reflective of the core priorities of each one of the BRICS members, notably to strive towards the creation of an inclusive society and global partnerships that will bring prosperity to all humankind.

The theme is intended to align and ensure strategic continuity with the approved themes for South Africa’s chair of both the South African Development Community (SADC) and the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
