Elderly South Africans have called on the government to put in place programmes which can help protect them.
They were guests of President Jacob Zuma at his annual Christmas party for the elderly held at his private estate Tuesday in Nkandla, a small town in the eastern province of KwaZului-Natal.
Thousands of elderly residents attended the function which was filled with music and dance. But many also voiced concerns over their safety, saying they are vulnerable to violent crimes like rape and are often robbed of their pensions.
President Zuma will host his annual youth and Children’s Christmas party on Thursday.
