Suspected ‘soldiers’ kill man in KK

Residents of Malasa Village at Nkhotakota Boma on Sunday morning woke up to horrifying news that a 49 year old man was killed by unknown thugs in his own house.

Nkhotakota Police Public Relations Officer Williams Kaponda confirmed the incident.

He said the deceased, Isaac Banda, was until his death an Assistant Accountant at Salima district education office.

Kaponda said on Saturday evening two suspected killers went to the deceased’s house where they introduced themselves as soldiers looking for the departed who at that time had gone to his maize mills at Kalimanjira Trading Centre in the district.

“The criminals introduced themselves to the deceased’s child that they were Malawi Defence Force soldiers and had come from Salima. One of them introduced himself as a Mr Banda.

“This one (Mr Banda) told the deceased’s child that Isaac was in a love affair with his wife. The two had told him that they had come to resolve the matter amicably,” said Kaponda.

But when the deceased came around 9.00 pm, the suspected killers forced the children at gun point to a bedroom where they locked and tied them up.

Later, Kaponda said the alleged killers took the deceased to his bedroom where he was killed in the wee hours of Sunday.

In the morning, Isaac was found lying dead on bed. His head was covered with a bathing towel and wire tied around his neck.

An autopsy conducted at Nkhotakota district hospital established that the death was due to strangulation. Meanwhile, Police are yet to make any arrests.
