Teenager commits suicide in Blantyre

BLANTYRE: A 19 year old young man from Chigumula Township in Blantyre has committed suicide by hanging himself over unknown reasons, police have confirmed.

Limbe Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Constable Patrick Mussa told Malawi News Agency on Thursday that the deceased identified as Lameck Moselati committed suicide on Tuesday.

According to information we have from the deceased’s mother, Loveness Kaipa, all the family members including Lameck’s wife went to the field to harvest maize leaving him behind, said Mussa.

Mussa added that the mother further outlined that surprisingly at 10am when everybody returned from the field found the deceased hanging to the roof of his house.

He said police visited the scene of the incident and the body was taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital where postmortem results showed death was due to strangulation, adding that the police were yet to establish factors leading to the suicide.

Meanwhile, the police is advising the general public to seek redress from relevant authorities including the police, religious and traditional leaders whenever facing any personal problems instead of committing suicide.

Moselati hailed from Kainja Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre.
