TUNIS– Tunisian Interior Minister Hichem Fourati said that the intelligence services recently thwarted a terrorist attack against security forces in the capital Tunis.
“An individual classified dangerous, who has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, was intercepted before carrying out attacks against security and military rallies,” Fourati said at the People’s Representatives Assembly.
Another suspect was arrested for planning a terrorist attack to seize weapons, the minister added.
Fourati also said that the female suicide bomber who blew herself up on the main street of the capital on Oct 29 had pledged allegiance to the Daesh group.
Citing a preliminary report on the bombing that injured about 20 police officers and six civilians, he said Mouna Guebla pledged allegiance to Daesh, and allegedly was in touch with extremist organizations inside and outside Tunisia.
The minister said without elaboration that authorities dismantled numerous cells and arrested suspects this year, aborting planned attacks in the capital.
