Two arrested for being in possession of medical drugs

Zomba: Police in Zomba are keeping in custody two men for allegedly being in possession of medical drugs without license contrary to section 35 of Pharmacy and Poison Board act.

The two are Tyson Kapeni 19 and Chimwemwe Daudi 22, were arrested on Wednesday at Thondwe Trading Centre.

Deputy Public Relations Officer (DPRO) for Zomba Police Station, Constable Patrick Maseko said the suspects were arrested by the team of detectives from Zomba Police Station after they were found selling the drugs.

He said the Police has so far seized assorted drugs which include malaria drug known as LA, tablets of fragile, gentamicin, Novida SP tablets and syringes just to mention a few.

The Suspects have so far been charged with offense of found in possession of medical drugs without license and they would appear before court soon.

Meanwhile Police in the district is appealing to the public to refrain from buying medical drugs from vendors as this is hazardous to life.

Kapeni hails from Malajira village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Chikowi while Daudi hails from Sanjika village in the area of TA Mlumbe both from Zomba district.
