Two women arrested for possessing Chamba

Mwanza: Two women in Mwanza were on Tuesday arrested by Mwanza Police for possessing cannabis sativa, locally known as Chamba.

Mwanza Police Station Publicist, Inspector Edwin Kaunda, told Malawi News Agency (MANA) on Thursday that the two, Pilirani M’ndala, 19 and Enelesi M’ndala, 27 were apprehended after police got a tip that the suspects were selling the illegal drug at their respective homes.

When police went to Pilirani’s house at Mchotesni Village, a total of three kilograms of loose cannabis sativa was found, said Kaunda, adding that the law enforcers seized the drug and arrested the culprit.

When the police visited Enelesi’s house, she was also found with 18 kilograms of the illicit drug, a development which also resulted to her arrest.

The two women are expected to appear before Mwanza Magistrate Court soon to answer the charge of being found in possession of cannabis sativa without permit contrary to the laws of Malawi.

Pilirani comes from Mchotseni Village in the area of Senior Chief Kanduku while Enelesi is from Msakambewa Village in the same Traditional Authoritry in Mwanza District.
