Umuthi Natural Herbal Company touts its youth employment drive

Lilongwe: Umuthi Natural Herbal Company has expanded its labour force by employing youth across the country as one way of complementing government’s efforts on reducing unemployment levels.

Operations Manager, Chiyambi Mazengera told Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Thursday in Lilongwe, that it has spread branches to Limbe in Blantyre, Thyolo, Zomba, Phalombe, Mwanza and Mulanje,

He added that in the north people are accessing the products in Nkhatabay, Mzuzu, Karonga, Rumphi and at Likoma Island, while in the central region products are available in all the districts.

We are proud as a youthful company that we are helping government in cushioning the state of joblessness and empowering the youth economically so that they contribute towards the development of their country, Mazengera pointed out.

He said that the company’s labour force has already grown by 80 per cent within two months following the extension of branches to several districts in the country.

We have secured a new machine at K1.2 million; this processing machine has the ability to triple production making it possible to satisfy the increasing demand on the market.

Most of the times our clients failed to get the products as it were often out of stalk because the machine we used before was small. We are overwhelmed with the high demand, Mazengera added.

The Company has 18 youth employees in which 11 are females and nine are males.

They are scattered across the country barely a month after the company donated 100 reflectors to ‘Kabaza’ bicycle tax operators in Lilongwe to prevent road accidents.

The Operation Manager revealed that the company has plans to employ forty youth by April 2019 of different levels of education to assist in the expansion drive of the company.

Currently we need more agents in many geographical areas so that we increase accessibility to all clients who need the products. The youthful generation is our target in this expansion drive he said.

One of the female employees, Fatima Mankhokwe, 24 of Traditional Authority (TA) Kalembo in Machinga, said her new job has changed her from the state of being idleness to a reliable person at household level.

I used to depend on parents for support on everything despite having gone to school and grown up. My job gives me the economic freedom I have been longing for a long time, I support myself and others at home, she said.

Umuthi is a registered herbal company and affiliates to Malawi Traditional Healers Umbrella Organization (MTHUO) which operates under the principles and guidelines of Ministry of Health and Population Services.

High Blood pressure, Fibroids, Cancerous wounds, HIV/AIDS related diseases, diabetes, reproductive challenges, skins problems, heaps and immune boosting are some of the many ailments Umuthi cures.
